Handgun Permit Application Procedure

REQUIREMENTS (please read this entire page)

  • Handgun permit applications must be made in person at the Records Division.
  • Hours are Tuesday-Friday from 8:30AM-3:30PM. (Closed on holidays)
  • Must bring a state issued photo ID.

  • Persons applying for a gun permits must reside in rural Madison County.  Any persons living within a city or town limit must apply with their local police department.

COST

  • 4 year permit -- $30.00 money order payable to State of Indiana AND $10 cash/check/money order payable to the Sheriff's Department.
  • Lifetime permit with current valid gun permit -- $60 money order payable to State of Indiana AND $40 cash/check/money order payable to the Sheriff's Department.
  • Lifetime Permit without current gun permit -- $75 money order payable to State of Indiana AND $50 cash/check/money order payable to the Sheriff's Department.
